Breaking Down the New LeBron 18 James Gang

Nike LeBron 18 Release Date

Nike Basketball and LeBron James will officially be releasing his 18th signature shoe, the LeBron 18 during the Fall 2020 season.
LeBron James teased a quick look at his latest signature shoe, the Nike LeBron 18, during his stay in Orlando. The shoe’s design finds James in a specific time and place in his career — late into his 17th season, he needs the cushioning set-up to support his unique blend of power and speed.
The LeBron 18 comes with a new cushioning arrangement featuring an Air Max unit in the heel that’s augmented by a full-length Zoom Air bag. The shoe is visually divided into two “halves” with details connoting speed in the forefoot and muscle in the heel.
It comes with a mix of knit’s from LeBron’s favorite previous models. There’s the raised dimensions from the 15’s Battleknit, the high-tenacity yarns from the 16 and the TPU yarns that composed the 17’s exoskeleton.
Also new to the LeBron 18 is a translation of Max Air on the upper, replacing the tongue foam with non-pressurized air pockets. The addition connects to an affinity for Air that’s followed James through his signature shoe history.
Finishing touches includes traction that has been refined. The forefoot is divided into quadrants with thin siping, broadening as you move toward the heel for a stricter grid warp, at which point the traction softens. The transition allows each area of the foot to benefit from the appropriate traction properties; no space is wasted.
Look for the Nike LeBron 18 to begin releasing in September at select retailers and Nike.com. The retail price tag is set at $200-$225 USD.
UPDATE 9/18: Nike has officially unveiled LeBron James’ next signature shoe. The Nike LeBron 18 features a blend of knits that were used on the past three models to create the new Knitposite 2.0 upper. It comes complete with a full-length Zoom Air bag at the forefoot atop an Air Max unit on the heel.
Look for the Nike LeBron 18 to debut in the “Reflections” colorway on September 18th followed by the “Empire Jade” pair in the Greater China region on September 21st. The “James Gang” pair will release in the states on October 9th followed by the “Los Angeles By Day” colorway releasing in North America on November 6th. Check out each pair below.

Breaking Down the New LeBron 18 James Gang

2020 New Nike LeBron 18
When I received the new LeBron 18 James Gang basketball sneaker in the mail last week, I was hyped – this was my first pair of LeBrons ever. And better yet, they hadn’t even released yet. I couldn’t wait to get them on foot to test them out.
Breaking Down the New LeBron 18 James Gang
Here’s what I’ll say about the LeBron 18: I feel like for me, this is more of a lifestyle/weightlifting sneaker than a basketball shoe. After all, I’m only 6’0″, 155 pounds soaking wet . I need something lightweight and low-to-the-ground. The LeBron 18 is not that. It is a bulky, heavy shoe with all kinds of unnecessary plastic on it. Now don’t get me wrong, I still love the design and the tech in the LeBron 18, which you can read more about here . And I do have plenty of positive things to say about the LeBron 18, so let’s break down the pros and cons.
If you’re a LeBron fan , I think you will absolutely love this shoe. The Knitposite upper has a great feel to it and provides breathability. It also just looks cool. There’s a TON of cushioning in the LeBron 18 – not only is there a full-length Zoom Air sole unit, there’s also a heel Air Max unit stacked on top of that. If you’re a big man, you’re going to love the bounce and the cushioning.
There’s also clear Air bubbles embedded into the tongue of the shoe, which is very unique. I don’t think I recall Nike ever doing that before, so it’s something that I always notice first when looking at them. I also loved the traction of the sole – it was very grippy and great for sharp cuts. This particular “ Nike LeBron 18 “What The” Multicolor Basketball Shoes DM2813-400 James Gang” colorway is a nod to LeBron’s wife and kids, and the vibrant colors definitely pop next to the black Knitposite upper.
As I already stated, the LeBron 18 James Gang is a heavy shoe. When I took them out of the box, I wondered if they sent me the wrong size. Not only were they heavier than other sneakers I wear, they were also bulkier. I thought for sure when I put them on that they ran big, but was surprised that they actually fit pretty well and run true to size. I would say that you need to lace them tightly, or else your foot will slide forward and your toes will get scrunched up.
I’m not a fan of the plastic tongue, as you can’t wear low-cut socks with them or else it will cut up your shin. I’m also not a fan of all the plastic on the heel, which basically just adds excess weight to the shoe. While the concept of a heel Air Max unit stacked on top of a full-length Zoom Air unit is a great idea, I don’t think it’s actually necessary and again just adds weight to the shoe. Really it’s just a novelty like the Air Max 270 – they did it because they could.
2020 New Nike LeBron 18
Overall, I’d say the LeBron 18 James Gang is a cool shoe with plenty of tech, but it’s just too heavy to play in if you’re a guard or small forward. If you’re a bigger, physical player like LeBron, I think it’s definitely worth trying out. The cushioning and support are there to help soften your landings. If you’re smaller, you may just want to wear them to the gym or as a lifestyle shoe and stick to something lighter for when you’re getting buckets. Also you can’t deny that it’s pretty crazy that LeBron now has 18 sneakers, so if you collect LeBron shoes this is obviously a must-have.
Make sure to try out the LeBron 18 James Gang which releases October 9th.
