Surprise! Keith Urban, 54, delighted a group of ‘super fans’ at Urbenville Public School in northern NSW on Monday morning as he hosted a surprise Zoom call
‘This is where it all begins,’ an excited Urban told the students.
‘Wanting to play an instrument, wanting to sing and play for other people… thank you, thank you to the school and to the students for having such a passion for music.’
Clearly excited following the video call, the students decided to playfully rename their school ‘Keith Urbenville’ and change their logo to a photo of the popular singer.
Cute! During the almost six-minute chat, Keith, 54, inspired the students as he spoke about music, performing and answered several questions by the students
‘This is where it all begins,’ an excited Urban told the students. ‘Wanting to play an instrument, wanting to sing and play for other people… thank you, thank you to the school and to the students for having such a passion for music’
Earlier this year, the music students of Urbenville Public School captured hearts of the world with their kindness, performing weekly outside the local age care home.
Social media and media coverage included an invitation for Urban to visit the school for their holiday concert, but filming commitments in Sydney meant he had no choice but to surprise the students virtually.
Integrated Risk of Pandemic Covid
This isn’t the first time the Australian rocker has taken time off his busy schedule to inspire students.
Christmas has come early! The Grammy winner then surprised the school with five locally purchased guitars for its program and gifted each of the 16 students their own to take home
Late last month Keith met with students from Hillwood High School in Nashville.
The visit, with the school’s Rock Band, Orchestra, Choir and Band programs, saw Urban hosting a Q&A session that discussed, amongst other things songwriting and performing.
Urban was treated to two student performances, including a performance of his hit Wasted Time from the school’s String Orchestra.
Speaking of his visit, he said: ‘I left Hillwood inspired. The students that I met with, and heard play, were passionate, insightful and so naturally talented.
‘Some may make music their life’s work, and some may not, but either way, what these students are experiencing now, will be invaluable for their futures.’
